Hair transplantation is not a panacea and has strict indications. Hair transplant surgery is usually not appropriate or needed to be suspended when:
1. Absolutely or strictly taboo situations
1. Serious shortage of donor resources: this is the most fundamental taboo. If the number of hair follicles in the posterior occipital part (donor site) is scarce and the quality is poor, there will be "no rice to cook" and effective transplantation cannot be carried out.
2. In a period of massive hair loss: hair loss has not been stabilized, and it is impossible to accurately judge which areas need transplantation. If you rush to surgery, the primary hair will continue to fall off after surgery, resulting in a "fault" between the transplanted hair and the primary hair, and the effect is very unnatural.
3. Active period of alopecia areata: especially in patients with alopecia universalis or alopecia total, the cause is related to the immune system, and new hair is likely to be attacked again and fall off after hair transplant. You need to wait for the condition to stabilize for at least one year.
4. Active period of cicatricial alopecia: If hair loss is caused by lichen planus, discoid lupus erythematosus and other diseases, it is necessary to control the primary disease first, and then evaluate it after the condition is completely stable.
5. Suffering from severe heart, liver, and kidney diseases, coagulation dysfunction or poor control of diabetes: these conditions will increase the risk of surgery and affect postoperative recovery.
2. Situations that need to be suspended or carefully assessed
1. Minors (usually under 25 years old): The trend of hair loss in young people has not stabilized, the transplantation plan is difficult to design, and secondary surgery may be required.
2. Pregnant and breastfeeding women: In order to avoid the potential effects of anesthetic drugs on the fetus or baby, the operation should be postponed.
3. If there is a local infection or skin disease of the scalp: such as folliculitis, psoriasis, eczema, etc., it needs to be cured before surgery to prevent the spread of the infection.
4. Have unrealistic expectations for the effect: If you expect to return to childhood hair volume after hair transplant or completely ignore your own donor restrictions, doctors need full communication and psychological counseling.
Core principle: Hair transplantation is "resource redistribution", not "out of thin air". You must conduct a comprehensive hair follicle test and physical condition assessment under the guidance of a doctor to ensure that you are a suitable candidate in order to achieve the desired results.
